Cap/Dome nut
The dome-shaped projection on one side of the nut gave rise to the names of “dome nuts”. The main purpose of this is to shield nearby things from dents and structural damage. If it somehow violently impacts the fasteners, it also lessens the effects of physical mishaps on human skin.
